Icon: OverviewOverview Joe Albertson, founder of the grocery chain, wanted to create an attractive home for resident and migratory wildlife in the middle of Boise dedicated to his wife. In approximately 14 months time, a 40-acre horse pasture was transformed into a carefully landscaped complex of ponds, trees, shrubs, and open spaces that attracts and protects a variety of wildlife. A paved path meanders through the park. Because it is located adjacent to the Boise River, with its dense riparian vegetation, it attracts wildlife supported by the river. Two gazebos of stout beam and stone construction offer attractive views and seating along the paths to view waterfowl and songbirds. This site also has a display of the world's largest known ponderosa pine tree.
