Overview Garden City earned its name from the Chinese farmers who first settled there after the Gold Rush and distinguished their new homes with elaborate gardens. Though surrounded by Boise, Garden City has kept its individuality and host many of its own events. The Western Idaho Fairgrounds and Memorial Stadium, home of the Boise Hawks baseball team, are both within Garden City's limits. The Western Idaho Fair occurs every August at the Fairgrounds and includes a variety of entertainment acts, agriculture and livestock competitions, a carnival and food vendors.
