Overview
Horseshoe Bend, 25 miles north of Boise, marks the beginning of the Payette River Scenic Highway on Highway 55. The town is also an intersection for Highway 52. Horseshoe Bend's culture is a blend of lumber, livestock, mining, and railroading. The Thunder Mountain Line travels from Horseshoe Bend to Cascade on weekends. On Memorial Day weekend, Horseshoe bend hosts the annual Banjo Festival, in June it holds the National Senior Pro Rodeo, and in October celebrates the annual Fall Festival. West of Horseshoe Bend are Placerville, Centerville and Pioneerville, areas loaded with remnants from earlier mining days.
